Donald R. Proper

Donald R. Proper, age 69, a resident of Independence Court for the past 12 years and formerly Lawrence Park Twp., passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014 at UPMC Hamot following a lengthy illness. He was born January 20, 1944 in Erie, a son of the late Raymond and Naomi Kline Proper.

Don was a 1961 graduate of the former Lawrence Park H.S.; having completed grades K – 12 with perfect attendance. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Don was employed by the General Electric Co. for over 25 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Lawrence Park United Methodist Church. Don was a member of the Lawrence Lodge #708 F & AM, Scottish Rite Consistory Valley of Erie, and Zem Zem Shrine. He enjoyed drag racing and was an avid L.A. Lakers fan.

Survivors include his sister, Karen Buckel (Herbert) of Harborcreek Twp.; his brother, David Proper, Sr. of Silver Springs, Md.; two nephews: David Proper, Jr. (Dionne) and Mike Buckel; two nieces: Danielle Proper (Nate) and Andrea Faber (Kellen) and two great-nieces.

Don's family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the excellent care he received from the nurses, doctors and entire staff of Independence Court. The Proper Family wishes to extend a very heartfelt "thank you" to the activities director, Peg Montag-Liebel for her loving care and encouragement.
