Dorothy M. Brown

Dorothy M. Brown, age 96, a lifelong resident of Erie, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 23, 2013. Dorothy was born in Erie on September 28, 1916 to the late Harry and Alberta Edwards. Dorothy and her husband Ardell, owned Brown's Market and Brown's Hardware on Buffalo Road in the 1940's, 50's and 60's. During the 1980'sDorothy managed the Country Chef where she was known for her homemade soups and pies. Dorothy was active with the Republican Women's Association for many years. She enjoyed sewing and baking and will always be remembered for her cookies and pies. Most of all, Dorothy will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. Dorothy often spoke about how she was blessed with the family and friends the Lord had bestowed upon her. The truth is that those who were fortunate enough to know Dorothy will say they were the ones that were blessed. Dorothy is survived by her son, David Brown (Cathy) of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; her daughter Carol Sittinger of Erie; her brother Kenneth Edwards of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and her sister, Shirley Abbott of Erie; 12 grandchildren and their spouses; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ardell K. Brown; her daughter, Susan Davis; and her sister and brothers, Jean MacLeod, Chester Edwards and Harry Edwards. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
