Dorothy Marie (Congdon) Glenn

Dorothy Marie (Congdon) Glenn, 92, formerly of Union City, Pa., passed away with her family present on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, Pa. Dorothy was born March 18, 1920, the daughter of the late Grover and Mabel (Carroll) Congdon. She was a Union City High School graduate and worked for her grandparents, when they owned and operated the Congdon Hotel, which was known as the best hotel in Northwestern, Pa., at that time. She also worked later for Mr. Fred Bauer at the GLF Coop., as a secretary and desk clerk. She and her high school sweetheart, Mark C. Glenn, were married, January 1, 1942, in Union City, Pa. She also helped her husband, Mark, run the Glenn Clothing Store, in Union City, for several years before it was sold and also the Glenn Funeral Home, in Union City, Pa. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Union City, Pa., where she was active in their Women's Circles, and also was a past Deacon and Elder of the Church. In her younger years she was a Cub Scout pack leader. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #19, where she was a past matron. She was very active in the Union City Hospital Auxiliary of the former Union City Memorial Hospital. She and her husband Mark loved to go ballroom dancing and made several new friendships. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Mabel (Carroll) Congdon, also her stepmother Marion (Hare) Congdon, who was Union City's first female postal delivery lady, a fact that she was very proud of, her husband Mark C. Glenn, in 1988, and a grandson Travis Mitchell Glenn, in 1994, four brothers, Grant Hare, Donald Congdon, George Congdon, and Allen Congdon. Survivors include a daughter Deborah L. Glenn of Alexandria, Va., and sons Robert M. Glenn and his wife Rebecca of Union City, Pa. and Alan J. Glenn and his wife Judy of Fairfax, Va.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mark, Scott and Shelby Glenn, and a step- granddaughter, Tara Whiteley; stepsisters Faneil Pease and her husband Herbert and Elaine Steinbaugh; and sisters-in-law, Adele Congdon and Dora Congdon; several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at the Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home Inc., 62 South Main Street, Union City, Pa., on Thursday, January 3, 2012, from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m., and attend funeral services at the United Presbyterian Church, corner of Second Avenue and West High Street, Union City, Pa., on Friday, January 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Robert Willert and Rev. James Parkinson will officiate, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City, Pa. Memorials are requested to the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Foundation, Inc., 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507, or Wesbury United Community, 31 North Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335, or the United Presbyterian Church, Corner of Second Avenue and West High Street, Union City, PA 16438 The Glenn Family would like to thank the Wesbury Community, Cribbs Residence and Grace Rehabilitation personnel for all their care and help in making Dorothy' stay as comfortable as possible, and also to her Grace Hall roommate and family who help to make Dorothy's life more comfortable while she resided there.
