Edwin E. Wright

Edwin E. Wright, age 88, of Erie, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, December 29, 2012 at St. Mary's Home of Erie, East. He was born in Erie March 7, 1924 a son of the late Edwin and Thelma Hough Wright. Edwin was a graduate of East High School and Gannon College. He was a veteran of WWII attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant with the Army Air Corp while serving as a tail gunner. He flew 32 missions and recently received the Victory Medal. Edwin was a chemist with Hammermill Paper Co. for 40 years retiring in 1989. He worked at Sears & Roebuck and as a Security Guard at Mercyhurst College and Mercy Center. He was an usher and Eucharistic minister at Mercy Center and Holy Rosary Church. Edwin enjoyed golf and fishing and was a member of the American Legion, Carl Neff Post. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Schmitt Wright who died in 2009, an infant son, Thomas Wright, and his cousin Margaret Dudley with whom he was raised. Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Polaski, and her husband Gene of Millcreek, Patricia Brugger, and her husband Charles of Maumee, Ohio, and Susan Majoris, and her husband Paul of Indiana, Pa.; three sons, David Wright, and his wife Beverly of Topeka, KS, Robert Wright, and wife Mary Lou of Union City, and Michael Wright, and his partner Robert Morin of Albany, N.Y.; two sisters, Elizabeth Cumming, of Erie and Anna May Trohoski of North East; 19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His cousins Doris Atkinson and Alvin Wright with whom he was raised also survive. Friends are invited to call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St. Tuesday, January 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Further visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral mass at St. Mary's Home of Erie, East, 607 East 26th St. at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Joseph Wardanski as celebrant. Interment with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
