Edwin W. Deckert

Edwin W. Deckert, age 88, of Erie, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Presque Isle Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, following a brief illness. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., April 30, 1925, son of the late Edwin A. and Florence Werner Deckert.

Edwin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Erie City Union Ironworks and Erie Strayer. Edwin loved being outdoors, especially going to the peninsula, fishing, picnics, and spending time with family and friends. He had been involved with the R.B. Wiley Central City Senior Activity Center, and was a member of the Erie Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha A. Weaver Deckert; two sons, Alvin Clyde Deckert and Timothy J. Deckert; and a granddaughter, Tammy Brozell.

Edwin is survived by a daughter, Laura Deckert; a daughter-in-law, Rita Deckert, both of Erie; a brother, Richard Deckert of Waterford; a sister, Lucie Dunn Gorzynski of N.J.; several nieces, nephews, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
