Eleanor A. Bayhurst Heidecker, 88, of Summit Township, died Thursday morning March 7, 2013 at St. Mary's Home East following a brief illness. A resident of Greene and Summit Townships all of her life, she was born in Erie on January 24, 1925 a daughter of the late Philip and Carrie Madura Bayhurst. Eleanor was a homemaker, farmer, and gardener for most of her life and was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Eleanor always gave to others and enjoyed writing letters to friends and families. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, and knitting. She was especially renowned for her pies and sweet rolls. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Herbert E. Heidecker; two sons, Ronald and Charles Heidecker; one granddaughter, Katie Heidecker; one grandson, Alexander Johnson; and four brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Edward, and Paul Bayhurst. Survivors include three sons, David Heidecker and his wife Sharon of Erie, William Heidecker and his wife Louise of Summit, and Herb D. Heidecker of Summit; one daughter Molly Johnson and her husband Matt of Erie; eight grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, Daniel, Matthew, Mark, and Erin Heidecker, and Ellie and Gus Johnson; two great grandchildren, Anthony and Connor; one sister, Betty Gaber and her husband Richard of Waterford; many dear friends and neighbors including Fran Carr and David Dahlkemper; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.. A prayer service will be held there Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Boniface Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be in Mount of Olives Cemetery.
