Eleanor M. Wertz Hiles

Eleanor M. Wertz Hiles, age 77, of Wesleyville, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at St. Mary's Home of Erie. She was born on October 12, 1935 in Erie, daughter of the late Harry A. and Myrtle M. Olsen Wertz. She resided in Erie her entire life. Eleanor was a 1953 graduate of the former Academy High School. She was a solo singer and member of the Academy Acappella Choir, Henderson Methodist Church Choir, Messiah Lutheran Church Choir and the Symphonic Singers. She was also a paid member of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul Choir where she had also served as a soloist for many weddings there. Eleanor was a former member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Gridley Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was also formerly employed by Lynn's Clothing Store, Sears, Boston Store, Horne's and Lazarus Dept. Stores. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Preceded in death by three sisters: Ethel Morgan, Emily Cornwell and Judy Carroll and one brother, Russell C. Wertz. Survivors include her beloved husband of 59 years, Donald E. Hiles; two daughters: Donna Holverson (Don) of Austinburg, Ohio and Dianne Tabor (Jeff) of Greenwood, Ind.; two sons: Walter R. Hiles and Warren E. Hiles (Debbie) all of Erie; one sister, Thora Lee Stachewicz of Wesleyville; eight grandchildren: Sean Stoy, Eric and Heather Carr, Jamie Luchs, Amy, Michael, Stacey and Jessica Hiles. Also survived by great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Friday at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Jeffrey Piccirilli, Pastor, Messiah Lutheran Church. Private interment at the convenience of the family.
