Everett Lloyd Hites


Everett L. Hites, 91, Albion, Pa., died on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Edinboro Manor after a long illness.

He was born in McPherson, Kan. on Aug. 29, 1922, the son of the late Ira and Ella Joslin Hites.

He was a member of Washington Valley Christian Church, Edinboro, Pa. and Antique Auto Club of America, where he was a master judge.

He served with the U.S. Navy during WW 2.

He retired from the Bessemer and Lake Erie RR on July 1, 1978 as an electrician after 31 years of service. In 1946 he started a mobile radio repair service traveling from place to place in an old school bus, when he and his wife opened Hites Appliance from 1955 to 1968.

He rebuilt many antique wagons over the years. He also enjoyed woodworking and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Heath Hites on Jan. 5. 2004; a son, Martin Hites; two brothers, Walter Hites and Delmar Hites; and a sister, Virginia Armogost.

He is survived by a son, Lawney Hites and his wife, Betty, New York State and a daughter, Terri Cleaver and her husband, Scott, Albion, Pa.; two sisters, Edna McClinton, Springboro, Pa. and Joyce Catalano, Meadville, Pa.; further survived by eleven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Mattera Funeral Home, 188 East State St. Albion, Pa. on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A service will be held there on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Duane Pinney, pastor of Washington Valley Christian Church, officiating.

Burial in Girard Cemetery.
