George R. "Dick" Legters, age 95, of Pinellas Park, Fla., formerly of Clymer and Findley, N.Y., died on Monday March 31, 2014.
He was born on August 14, 1918, in Clymer, N.Y., to the late George H. and Florence Damcott Legters.
Dick graduated from Clymer High School and served in the United States Army during WWII
, with the 3rd Armored Division, in France, Belgium and Germany.
He retired after 35 years with the former Corry Jamestown Corporation, Corry, Pa., where he was a supervisor. After moving to St. Petersburg, Fla., he retired again after six years with the former Ross Chevrolet.
Dick served for 15 years on the Clymer Central School Board of Education in Clymer, N.Y., was a 60 year member of Olive Lodge #575 F&AM in Sherman, N.Y., and was a member of the Community Bible Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Kress Legters (9/21/10); stepson, Timothy Engel (9/20/03); brother, Robert Legters (2/26/73).
Dick is survived by his daughter, Frances Fair (Mike) of Ashville, N.Y.; son, George Legters (Majel) of Satellite Beach, Fla.; stepdaughter, Carole Higley (Leonard) of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandson.
Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 S. Lake Street, North East, on Friday at 12 noon until time of a funeral service at 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Grahamville Cemetery.
