Howard E. Freeman

Howard E. Freeman, age 91, of Lawrence Park, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at St. Mary's Home East. He was born in Olean, N.Y. on August 24, 1921, son of the late Earl and Edith Trapp Freeman. Howard was a member of Lawrence Park United Methodist Church where he helped with many building projects. He was employed at General Electric Co. for 41 years, retiring in 1986, and was a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club and the G.E. Retired Employees Assn. Howard was an excellent craftsman and had built five boats, naming them after the submarines from the Navy. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and served aboard the Submarine Stingray on seven war patrols. Howard and his late wife, Jean, were married for 64 years and had built their house together 62 years ago. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Ruhling Freeman on December 3, 2012 and seven siblings. Howard is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Wayand (Joe) of Ashtabula, Ohio and Dianne Russ (Ron) of Harborcreek; two sons, Mark Freeman (Dianne) of Sherman, N.Y. and Brian Freeman (fiancé Nancy) of Newport, R.I.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank all the staff at St. Mary's East for the loving care and support given. Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Saturday at 10 a.m. conducted by Reverend David Turner. Interment will follow at Valley Cemetery in McKean with military honors accorded by American Legion Millcreek Post #773.
