Hubert D. Shaffer, age 80, formerly of North East, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Go Ye Village Residential Care Center in Tahlequah, Okla. He was born in Wilmore, Kentucky on October 27, 1932, the son of the late Bert D. and Lorraine Anderson Shaffer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Fee Vrooman, and a beloved stepmother, Mildred Calkins Shaffer and aunt, Kathryn Shaffer Buss Tryon. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Ethel, who still resides in Tahlequah, Okla., two daughters, Shannon Harsh and Rosemary Millar both of Dothan, Alabama, three sons, Alan of Mesquite, Texas, Scott of Bellevue, Washington, and Patrick of Dothan, Alabama; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Russell C. Shaffer (Sharon) and a sister, Sylvia Z. Shaffer, both of North East. Hubert graduated from North East High School in 1951. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy
and served in Guam. On July 16, 1955 he married Ethel Lorinda Gilmore, formerly of Cambridge Springs, Pa. That same year they moved to Houghton, New York so Hubert could attend Houghton College. Most of his life he served as an electrician for Love Field (old Dallas airport) in Dallas, Texas. After retirement, he served as an electrical supervisor at the Dallas Convention Center. Private burial was held January 5, 2013 at the Venango Cemetery in Venango, Pennsylvania.
