Jack Armitage

Jack Armitage passed to eternal life on October 10, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 5, 1930 in Corry, son of the late Harold Armitage and Ella Smedley Armitage.

Jack was raised and educated here in Corry. He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He married Helen Motuz on August 20, 1955. Although Jack excelled at many things, he always said that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He and Helen enjoyed raising three daughters together, Cheryl Armitage Fuhrmann of New Jersey, Helene Armitage Tempelmeyer of Texas, and Jacqueline Armitage Polito of Virginia.

Jack not only had a great love of Country and Family, he also had a great love for his Church, being a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Parish and regularly serving as usher and serving as President and member of the St. Elizabeth Parish Council. He also served as coordinator for the building of the St. Elizabeth Parish Center. He also loved his community acting as a member of the Corry City Council from 1980 to 1987 and Mayor of Corry from 1988 to 1997.

Jack was loved, admired, and will be greatly missed by his wife, children, sons-in-law Larry Fuhrmann, Mark Tempelmeyer and Ron Polito, grand children Jack, Kurt, and Monika Fuhrmann, and Dominick and Lana Polito, and his great grandchildren Jack and Addison Furhmann, who called him PaPop.

He is also survived by sisters Nancy McCray of Corry, twin sister Jean Fox of Corry, Phyllis Nesmith and her husband James of Russell, Pa., and Mary Ann Shuhart of Painesville, Ohio, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded by a sister, Betty Jane Porter.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. There will be a Scripture Service at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 26 W. Pleasant St., Corry, Pa., at 10 a.m. Pastor Mark Hoffman will officiate.

He will be greatly missed by his family, his church, and his community.

Since Jack had his great love for his Church and children, he would have loved any charitable donations to be made to St Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 26 W. Pleasant St., Corry, Pa. 16407, St. Thomas Catholic School, 229 W. Washington St., Corry, Pa. 16407 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
