Jerry "Marty" Day Jr.

Jerry " Marty " Day, Jr., age 74, of Summit Township. passed away Friday, November 23, 2012, at UPMC Hamot. Jerry was born in Thomas, West Virginia on August 2, 1938, a son of Alma Wilson Day of Erie, and the late Jerry Day Sr. He was a graduate of Academy High School, Class of 1957, where he played saxophone with the high school band. He had been a supervisor at the Dr. Gertrude Barber Center for 15 years, retiring in 2003. Jerry was an original member of the 4 Jay's band from 1954 thru 1960, where he sang bass. He had previously owned his own catering business and had been a salesman for Penn Beer. He rejoined the band in 2002 thru 2009. Jerry loved his wife and children. He enjoyed cooking, singing and fishing, and played Santa Claus for many years. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Killien. Besides his mother, Jerry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty Webster Day; five sons, Jerry Day III, and his wife Patti of Erie, Michael Day, of Erie, Jay Mora, of Puerto Rico, Brian Mora, of New York City, and Sean Day of Durham, N.C.; three daughters, Brenda Riu, of Erie, Shelley Maxson, of Durham, N.C., and Heather Hamilton, and her husband Bryan, of Winchester, Va. He is further survived by his brother, Allen Day and his wife Nancy, of Erie, along with 14 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
