Retired from General Electric Jesse Stonewall Sr., age 97, of Erie, Pa., passed away Sunday, December 12, 2012 at Golden Living Center-Western Reserve. He was born in Whatley, Alabama, Clark County, on November 13, 1915, the oldest son of eight children, born to the late William and Rena Stonewall. He was a resident of Erie for 67 years. He graduated from Fairfield (Ala.) Industrial High School and was educated in electronics by completing mail order correspondence courses, the equivalent of today's online courses. He was retired from General Electric after 35 years of service, where he was an electronic technician. He was always modest to speak of the recognition he received for his electronic contributions to the company. As a young, man he worked in the steel mills of Birmingham, Alabama, the coal mines of Kentucky, and was an entrepreneur in Erie, repairing televisions, radios, and small appliances. After retirement, he gardened, fished, worked at carpentry, as well as inventing electronic devices, which was a passion of his. His interest in health and body building inspired his oldest son to pursue the sport successfully, yielding him national recognition. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Besides his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Ozell Denson Stonewall; two sons, Jesse "Rock" Stonewall, Jr. and Reginald Stonewall; grandson, Theo Philo Stonewall; granddaughter, Victoria Green Stonewall; four sisters, Henrietta Davis, Irene Johnson, two sisters who died at birth, one of which was his twin; and two brothers, Clim Stonewall, and Willie Lee Stonewall. He is survived by four sons, Curtis Stonewall (Thelma), Chicago, Ill., Melvin Stonewall, Erie, Leon Alfred Stonewall (Geraldine), Redford, Mich., Dale Kenneth Stonewall (Dorothy), San Diego , Calif.; three daughters, Jacqueline Colbert, Little Ferry, N.J., Alaji Ujamaa, Decatur, Ga. and JoAnn Pembrook (Terrence) Erie; his youngest brother, Clinton Stonewall, Fairfield, Ala.; 34 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Funeralization was by House of Law Inc., 9406 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills, Pa.
