John Alex Reyda, 70, of North East, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a four year battle with lung cancer. He was born in Corry, Pa. on December 17, 1941, son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Coons) Reyda. He attended Corry Elementary Wright Street (eight room) School, Sciota (one room) School, Wheelock (one room) School, and Corry Area School for five years. He graduated from Sherman Central School in 1960. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1970. He served in the United States Army and in Vietnam from 1963-1967. He worked for the Chatauqua County Department of Health, started the first 4H Program in Acores Islands, Portugal. He worked as a Soil Scientist for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for 17 years, mostly involved in the remediation of industrial sites. He was a proud member of the North East VFW
and American Legion. He was also a member of the North East Athletic Club and an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Reyda. Survivors include three children, Alex Reyda (Julie) of Ripley, N.Y., Nicole Ross (Donald) of Niskayuna, N.Y., and Rita Ryan and fiance (Juan Quevedo), of North East, eight grandchildren, Lauren, Owen, Anna, Colin, Ally, Brenden, Peter, and Nathan, two sisters, Elizabeth and Caroline Reyda, and one brother, Steven (Diane) Reyda of Corry.
