John E. Chuck Englert


John E. "Chuck" Englert, 87, of Greene Township, died Wednesday September 25, 2013 at St. Mary's Home East following a lengthy illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born April 16, 1926 a son of the late Arthur and Rose Hartline Englert.

Chuck served his country in the United States Army during World War II and went on to work as a mechanic with Dailey Chevrolet and Weaver Buick until his retirement in 1989. He attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, gardening and woodworking. He also enjoyed tinkering with small engines and riding his lawnmower.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Charles David Englert and his wife Karen; one grandson, Charles Nathan Englert; one sister, Dorothy Becker; and five brothers, Arthur, Earl, Edward, Raymond, and Robert Englert.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley Mantsch Englert; two sons, John Englert and his wife Cindy of Waterford, Brian Englert and his wife Janis of McKean; two sisters, Rosemary Harmon and Marie Groner, both of Erie; four grandchildren, Nicole, John III, Nathan, and Breanna; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery
