Joseph Corsale

Joseph Corsale, age 75, beloved husband of Filomena Corsale, and beloved father of Frank Corsale, went peacefully home to the Lord on Thursday, November 22, 2012, with Filomena and Frank at his side, after a short illness. Joe was born in Vilapriolo, Sicily, Italy, on April 1, 1937, the son of Frank and Francesca (LaPlaca) Corsale. With a spirit of courage and adventure, he came to America at 20 years of age. When Joe was ready to marry, he returned to Italy and married the love of his life, his Filomena. This year, Joe and Filomena celebrated 49 years of happily loving each other. Joe was an entrepreneur ready to take advantage of all his new country had to offer. Along with his father and brother Larry, they opened a small bakery on West 18th Street in the heart of little Italy that grew into a very successful business, now being run by the third generation of Corsales, including Joe's son Frank. He worked hard to take care of his family and, even up to two months ago, still worked at the bakery for a couple of hours a day. Joe was a kind and generous man who will be remembered for his big smile, his great sense of humor and his beautiful voice. He sang on many occasions at the request of family and friends, including at the wedding of his son Frank, to Lisa. He loved to play bocce. All who knew Joe understood that the most important thing to him was family. He loved his big family and spending time with all of them. At Joe and Filomena's home, the door is always open and all are invited in and invited to eat. In the last 12 years, Joe was blessed with three grandchildren, Joseph, Justin, and Abigail, who dearly loved their "Papa". When he spoke of them, his face would light up. Joe just loved being with them, taking them to the bakery, going to their school plays and sporting events and having them for overnight stays. Joe was preceded in death by two sisters, Antionette Stanko and Salvina Massari, sister- in- law Rosa Carmosino, brothers-in- law Joseph LaFuria and Croce LaFuria. In addition to his wife and son, Joe is survived by his daughter-in-law, Lisa (Popovich) Corsale; his sister, Santina Stearns, (husband, Tom); his brother, Larry Corsale, (wife, Peggy); brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lou Massari, Dominic Carmosino, Maria and Angela LaFuria; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a prayer service there Monday at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint George Church at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saint George Athletic Association, 5145 Peach St., Erie, PA 16509, where he was a life-long member of the parish and his grandchildren attend school.
