Joseph E. Weber

Joseph E. Weber, 93, of Route 89, Corry, died Saturday, December 22, 2012, at St. Mary's Home of Erie. He was born in Erie on February 19,1919, a son of the late Joseph H. and Mary E. Wetterauer Weber. Joe was a farmer for most of his life. He also made maple syrup and had won first place ribbons for his syrup at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show, in Harrisburg, on many occasions. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with students from Wattsburg Schools, and had entertained many field trips, from the schools, to his farm, where he explained the maple syrup process. He also owned a bulk feed mill, which he ran from his farm, and after retirement, he worked for Verizon Phone Company, in security. Joe was active with the Wattsburg Fair and served on its board of directors for many years. From 1989 to 1995, he was president of the board. He also played baseball, as a catcher, until he was 42 years old. He was a member of the Union City Moose Lodge and was an active member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Weber. Joe is survived by his wife, Caroline G. O'Connor Weber, whom he married on August 20, 1989; two daughters, Beverly (Richard) Showman of Cridersdille, Ohio and Kay (Sam) Schweitzer of Mill Village; one son, Jerry (JoAnne) Weber of Erie; two stepsons, David K. (Cyndy) Leslie and Dale K. (Laura) Leslie, both of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and a sister, Evelyn Sosey of Erie. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are private and for the family. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, 9 Third Ave., Union City, on Friday, December 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. John Swoger officiating. Burial will be at St. Teresa's Cemetery, Union City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Teresa's Building Fund, 9 Third Ave., Union City, PA 16438 or to the . The C. S.
