Kathleen Fabian

Army Wife, Army Mother

Kathleen Fabian, 71, of Dumfries, Va., and formerly of Erie, passed away peacefully, at home, on February 19, 2014.

A 1960 graduate of St. Benedict Academy, she was the daughter of Thaddeus M. and Sophie A. Przychodzien and the wife of Colonel David R. Fabian (USA-Ret.), also formerly of Erie. The Fabians were married in Erie on May 9, 1964.

Kathleen proved to be an exemplary Army wife during her husband's military career. In 1994, she was recognized by Secretary of the Army Togo West and presented the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Public Service, for her outstanding leadership and numerous contributions toward improving the quality of life for soldiers and family members.

More importantly, Kathleen was a loving and devoted Army mother, raising three children during periods of war and peace, and maintaining over a dozen warm, welcoming, and love-filled households in the United States and overseas, for her family.

Kathleen's faith and spirit never wavered despite being afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis in 1986, breast cancer in 1996, and most recently, cancer's recurrence. To the end, her physical struggles were tempered by radiant smiles, envious dignity, and unbelievable courage.

Besides her husband, she is survived by son, Army Colonel Scott D. Fabian and wife Shelly of Potomac Falls, Va.; daughter Amy Faith Walck and husband Chris of Woodbridge, Va.; daughter Shan Marie Tyson and husband Lieutenant Colonel Michael Tyson, USMC, of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren Kathleen, Meaghan, and Julia Fabian; Savannah and Dylan Walck; Austin and Morgan "Mimi" Tyson; and sister Patricia Pedano of Erie.

A memorial mass will be conducted at a later date, as will eventual burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
