Kenneth M. "Babe" Allen

Kenneth M. "Babe" Allen, age 89, passed away December 19, 2012 in Venice, Florida. He was born in Wesleyville, on May 18, 1923, son of the late Maynard and Alice Bellingham Allen. Ken was a resident of Erie and Venice, Florida. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and attended Emmanuel Lutheran Church, in Venice. He graduated from Wesleyville High School, class of 1941. Ken served in the U.S. Army as a Cpl. in Company L, 5th Infantry Regiment, during WWII. He retired from General Electric after 37 years of service. Kenneth was active in baseball, having played in the Glenwood League, a passion he continually relived. He was instrumental in organizing the Glenwood League Breakfast Group. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed ballroom dancing. Ken was a member of Moose Lodge #593, Carl Neff American Legion Post #571, VFW Post #470, Erie Maennerchor and the Glenwood League Breakfast Group. Ken is survived by his beloved wife and "Love of His Life" for 31 years, Helen P. Scholl Allen. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert J. Allen. Friends will be received at Messiah Lutheran Church, Tuesday from 12 noon until the time of the Memorial Service there at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. Jeffrey Piccirilli.
