Konstantinos "Taki" Papanikos

Local Entrepeneur and Owner/Operator of Popular Local Restaurant

Konstantinos "Taki" Papanikos, age 83, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. He was born on March 9, 1930 in Lithohori, Greece, son of the late William and Magdalena Dioti Papanikos.

Taki came to the United States at the age of 21 and worked hard to achieve his American dream; a dream he realized in the form of a loving family and two successful local business enterprises. Taki was the founder and had owned and operated the popular restaurant at 12th and Peninsula Drive for 59 years. He had also owned a real estate business, Tri-State Properties, for many years. He was a past president of the PA Restaurant Association.

He was a member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. where he and his wife have wintered. Taki was a cantor at the church for many years and had been active in helping with the church festival in years past.

Taki was a member of the Kahkwa Club, Lakeshore Golf Club, the Elks Club and the Pompano Beach Golf Club. He was previously a member of the Erie Club and the former Aviation Club. He loved horse racing and had owned race horses at the former Commodore Downs. Over the last 25 years, golf had become his passion. He also enjoyed a yearly visit to Las Vegas with his family and had the opportunity to make a visit to Greece with his entire family. Cooking was another of Taki's loves and shared his gifts and talents with family and friends; especially at holiday times.

Preceded in death by one daughter, Cindy Papanikos and her son, Loren. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Flengas Papanikos; three children, Maggie Papanikos, William Papanikos (Sharon), and Elene Papanikos; three grandchildren, Nicole, Kaylyn and Anna; three brothers, George, Nick and Thomas; one sister, Vasiliki all of Greece; many nieces, nephews, cousins and very dear friends.
