Larry W. Hall

Larry W. Hall, 67, of Girard died at his home following a brief illness on Monday October 29, 2012. He was born February 26, 1945 in Erie, a son of Thelma M. (Knorr) Hall and the late Raymond D. Hall. Larry graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School in 1963 and in 1965 he was inducted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He received basic and advanced infantry training at Ft. Dix and was deployed to Cu Chi with the 25th Infantry Division. Upon moving into a position with B Company, the Viet Cong mortared the Company's position. During the Viet Cong attack, Larry was wounded by shrapnel in his leg, which was later amputated. He spent over four months in the beginning of 1967 in Valley Forge Hospital and then was sent to a VA hospital in Pittsburgh for a year. He received the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal for his wounds and bravery. Upon his discharge from the Army, Larry returned to Girard and went to work for Don Pratt Auto Sales and for Lockwood (Girard) Auto Sales, retiring from the former. He was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church, the Girard American Legion Post #494, the Edinboro-McKean VFW Post #740 and was a member of DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He was a dedicated golf fanatic, belonging to both the Eastern Amputee Golf Association and the National Amputee Golf Association. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley M. (Lavery) Hall, whom he married on February 15, 1969 in Albion; his sons, Darren M. Hall and his wife Christine of Meadville, and Raymond E. Hall and his wife Christine of Girard; his sister, Donna R. Payne and her husband Thomas of Albion, and his grandchildren, Devon Hall, Michael Hall, Justin Hall, and Amanda Soto and her husband Arnoldo; great grandchildren, Felix and Penelope Soto. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Rev.
