Madaline A. Maurin Cross

Madaline A. Maurin Cross, 95, formerly of Lake City, died Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Abington Crest Nursing Home. She was born October 15, 1917 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late John and Antonia Yeshelnik Maurin. Madeline was raised in the Morgantown, West Virginia area, graduating from University High School. She later graduated from West Virginia University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. Madeline moved to the Lake City area in the 1950s and had resided there until recently. She had been employed most by the Erie Housing Authority, as a housing inspector. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard, the Lake City Fire Company Auxiliary, the Fern Rebekah Lodge and the XYZ club. She enjoyed bowling and dancing. Throughout her life, she maintained the family home and her priority was to take care of her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William R. Cross, in 1964, whom she had married August 31, 1941 in Morgantown, W.Va.; her daughter Toni Cross, in 2002; her son Robert A. Cross, in 2008, and her dear friend Paul Hudacky, in 2008. She is survived by two sons, William E.Cross of Havre De Grace, Md., and John W. Cross of Potsdam, N.Y.; a sister, Marie Comley; a brother, Edward Maurin and his wife Ethel, all of Morgantown, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Catherine, Nathan, Hannah, Kelsey and Samuel Cross; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of a Service at 5 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Girard.
