Margaret Gessner "Peg" Sturtevant

Margaret "Peg" Gessner Sturtevant, 92, of Albion, Pa., passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013. She was born on the family farm, in Springboro, Pa., on August 2, 1920, daughter of Martin and Frances (Nirnberger) Gessner. She graduated from Springboro High School in 1938 and retired from the Astatic Corporation, Conneaut, Ohio, after working 31 years. Prior to a debilitating stroke in 1997, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, garage sales, ceramics, playing cards, and especially family gatherings. In her later years, she was the "domino queen." She married the love of her life, Gordon Sturtevant, on July 16, 1938. He died on September 18, 1981. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Frances Fackelman, Mary James, Frank Gessner, Kate Johnston, Betty King, Nick Gessner, and Theresa Mattera. She is survived by two sons, Ron Sturtevant and his wife, Betty, and their daughter, Cindy, all of Girard, Pa., and Rick Sturtevant, her caregiver, of Albion, Pa. Also, a sister-in-law Esther Hill of Deer Park, Wa. and several nieces and nephews survive. Honoring her last requests, her body will be cremated, there will be no calling hours, and her ashes will be buried privately, in Spring Cemetery, Springboro, Pa. Arrangements are being handled by the Mattera Funeral Home (her great nephew), 188 East State Street, Albion, Pa. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics of Erie County, 1128 State Street, Suite 304, Erie, PA 16501, in memory of Margaret and in honor of her special Olympian granddaughter, Cindy.
