"Our Loving Daughter"
Mary J. Bova, age 53 of North East Twp., died at her residence on the evening of Tuesday, July 9, 2013 following a series of lengthy illnesses. She was born in Erie on December 7, 1959, the youngest child of Dominic A. and Josephine D. Filutze Bova of North East.
Mary Jo was a graduate of North East High School and Villa Maria College. She was previously employed as a recreational therapist by Health South Rehabilitation Hospital of Erie. Over the years she helped in the kitchen of Bova's Restaurant and Pizzeria, her family's restaurant. There she had cooked alongside her parents, her grandmothers, a dear aunt Angie Ballew and her brother. She developed many close ties of friendship with her co-workers at Bova's who were very faithful in their care and concern for her in these last years of declining health.
Mary Jo loved music, playing drums and guitar in local bands that she helped to establish. She also enjoyed watching movies, gardening and playing cards. She especially loved animals and caring for her own pets, most recently her dog "Sassy". Mary will always be remembered for the dedication and loving care she provided to all her clients and most especially to both her grandmothers in their last years; Carrie J. DiPasquale and Anna M. Filutze. She was also preceded in death by her grandfathers, Adolph S. Bova (Grace M.) and Samuel J. Filutze.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister, Karen A. Philip (Barry) and her brother, Donald J. Bova all of North East; her two nephews: Robert D. Taylor of Lawrence Park and Richard K. Taylor of North East. Mary Jo is also survived by her aunt, Antoinette Presutti (Plas) of Millcreek; her uncle, Samuel R. Filutze (Ann) of North East and many loving cousins.
The entire Bova family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the many health care professionals, medical teams and nurses who lovingly cared for our Mary Jo during her illness.
