Mervin (Dean) Barnett, age 77, of Harborcreek Township died on Tuesday December 25, 2012 at UMPC Hamot. He was born on February 18, 1935 in Beaver Township, Jefferson, Co. Pa. to the late Harry Sr. and Elizabeth Kathryn Stahlman Barnett. Mervin was formerly employed as a steelworker at Zurn Industries for 44 years. He enjoyed music, gardening, hunting, and fishing. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father, William Rehm; sisters, Mary Carnes & Lucinda Barnett; brothers, Harry, David, & John Barnett, and son-in-law Gregory Sturgeon. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Barnett; daughters, Patricia Sturgeon of Fairview & Sandra Boyd (Martin) of Greenfield; a son, Richard Barnett of Harborcreek; grandchildren, Trapper & Joshua Sturgeon, Zackery & Afton Barnett, Ashley Lindsey; great-granddaughter, Lily Sturgeon; sisters, Twila Mae Greenley of Brookville, Dorothy Burkett of North East, Ruth Mathers of Harborcreek, Betty Moore of Summerville, S.C., Jane Bartlett of North East, Sally Bartlett (Paul), Shirley Trayer (Eugene) of Erie. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street North East on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating Rev. David Waldo.
