Phillip A. "Pap" Laird

Phillip "Pap" A. Laird, age 84, of Erie, passed away Monday April 1, 2013 at the Sarah Reed Retirement Center. He was born May 23, 1928 in Erie, the son of the late Alvin and Geraldine Laird. Phillip was a graduate of Academy High School and served with the US Army, during the Korean War. In 1989, he retired as a service technician with Xerox Corp, after working there for 25 years. Phillip enjoyed studying genealogy, listening to music, and following the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. He also loved following the activities of his grandchildren and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Matt Laird and a niece, Sally Passmore. Phillip is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Passmore Laird; two sons, Gary Laird and his wife Patricia of Erie and Greg Laird and his fiancé Janet Opperman of Robinson Township, Pa. He is the grandfather of Patrice and Monica Laird, and Jennifer Ramm and her husband Brian and is the great-grandfather of Nicholas and Gabriella Ramm. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Geraldine Passmore; a niece Judy Richter (Louis), and three great-nieces. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty St., Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Sarah Reed Retirement Center, 227 West 22nd St., Erie, PA 16502.
