Richard F. Allgeier, Sr., 86, of Greene Township, died Tuesday morning December 4, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born April 22, 1926 a son of the late Anthony P. and Marie M. Nies Allgeier. Richard served in the United States Army during World War II
and was stationed at the HQS Detatchment Sugamo Prison in Tokyo. He worked at GE as a machinist and locomotive inspector for 39 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Waterford American Legion, the Siebenbuerger Club, and the Moose Lodge in Union City. In 2011 he was recognized as Alumni of the Year for the decade of 1940-1950 at St. Boniface School. He was an avid bird watcher, especially Purple Martins, and enjoyed farming and gardening. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Matthew Ryan Fuhrman and one brother John Allgeier. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen Biebel Allgeier; seven sons, Michael Sr. and his wife Nancy of Erie, Richard Jr. and his wife Karen of Erie, Timothy and his wife Darlene of Waterford, Andrew and his wife Darlene of Lyman, S.C., Raymond and his wife Birgitta of Union City, Daniel and his wife Shelly of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Edwin and his wife Lisa of Erie; three daughters, Annette Fuhrman and her husband Chris, Roseanne Runser and her husband Norman, and Marilyn Smith and her husband Tom, all of Erie; one brother, Tom Allgeier of Erie; two sisters, Mary Ann Biebel of Waterford and Therese Husted and her husband Dennis of Greene Township; 26 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Further visitation will take place at St. Boniface Catholic Church from 1:15 p.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be in Mount of Olives Cemetery.
