Robert L. Newton, 83, of North East, Pa., passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Phillipsville, Pa. on October 26, 1930, a son of the late Roy E. and Ethel Allen Newton.
Bob was a graduate of North East High School, class of 1948. He lived in the North East area most of his life. He had worked 2 years at North East Flour Mills Inc., 2 years at Lovell Mfg., Erie, 37 years at Corry Jamestown Corp,. Corry, Pa., and 9 years at North East Service Plaza, retiring in 2002. He spent four years in the U.S. Navy aboard a destroyer escort during the Korean War. Bob was a life member of both the V.F.W
. Post #4789 and the American Legion Post #105, both in North East. He was also a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, in Lakewood, N.Y. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his yard.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christine Sturgis; one step-son, Randy J. Young; one step-daughter, Donna Sue Young; and one sister, Betty E. Cochran. Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce E. Newton; three sons, David R. Newton and his wife, Marina of Whitehall, Pa., Robert B. Newton and his wife, Ginna of Clymer, N.Y., and Alan J. Newton and his wife, Leeann of North East, Pa.; one daughter, Anna Marie Sturgis and her husband, Tom of Bullhead City, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Terry J. Koszewski and her husband, Leo of North East; two step-sons, Tom Eck and his wife, Jodi of Harrisburg, Pa. and Douglas Eck and his wife, Stacy of Corry, Pa.; a step-daughter, Trisha Estes and her husband, Roger of Middleburg, Fla. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, Pa. on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Rev. David Kuchta will officiate. Interment will be in Grahamville Cemetery.
