Russell William Hites, 82, of Albion, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 9, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born on August 10, 1931 in Conneaut, Ohio, and was the son of the late Florence Ethel (Lee) Hites and Arnold Jacob Hites. Russ lived in Albion, Pa. all his life.
After serving in the United States Army in Korea, Russ was a self-employed carpenter for ten years. He was a local mail carrier for the USPS for 27 years, retiring in 1993, and he also worked for many years at Johnson's Mill.
Russ enjoyed the outdoors and hunting with his family. He belonged to the Albion VFW
, the Edinboro VFW, the Springfield VFW and the Girard Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Ruth Schmidt and Grace Hill.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 28 years, Sally Hites, three sons Randy and his wife Denise, of Albion, David and his wife Rolanda, of Girard, and Larry Hites of Albion; two daughters, Laura Fobes and Gary of Albion; and Lisa Connelly and Chris of Butler, Pa. He is also survived by stepchildren Jim and Sue McClelland of Girard, Kelly McClelland of Alaska, Greg McClelland of Girard, as well as 17 loving grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends can call at the Mattera Funeral Home, in Albion, on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Further calling hours will be on Wednesday, November 13, 9-10 a.m., at the Wesleyan Church of the Nazarene, 9578 Rt. 6N, Albion, Pa., followed by the service at 10. Burial will be at the Hope Cemetery.
