Shirley E. Ferry Hansen

Shirley E. Ferry Hansen, age 87, formerly of Harborcreek Twp., residing in Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. She was born March 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Barney and Betty Ferry. Shirley was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker, and was previously active with the Girl Scouts where she had served as a chairwoman of the annual cookie drive. She also used to drive children for the Day Program at the Dr. Gertrude Barber Center and was a past president of Lincoln Elementary PTA. . Shirley enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and traveling. She and her husband visited many countries throughout the world. Shirley is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Prestel (David) of Baltimore, Md., and Susan Karakantas(Richard) of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, James Hansen (Sandy) of Akron, Ohio and Jeffrey Hansen (Carol) of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a sister, Janet Miller (Shorty) of Pocatello, Idaho; her in-laws, Camille Dahl of Ariz. and Joe Stingle of Fla.; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Hansen and two sisters, Audrey Stingle and Betty Lou Olson. The family recognizes and thanks the staff of Bethany Village Assisted Living for their personal, professional care giving. The family also thanks Hospice of Central PA for their outstanding care during the past several months. Services and interment will be private.
