Thomas A. Ryan

Thomas A. Ryan, age 70, of Erie passed away Monday, January 14, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born in Erie on April 3, 1942, the son of the late Arthur W. and Gertrude M. Lee Ryan. Thomas was also preceded in death by an older brother, Robert J. Ryan and a grandnephew, Spencer Gabriel King Ryan. Thomas attended Erie's Cathedral Prep, St. Mary's College, North East, Pa.; St. Mary's Redemptorist Novitiate, Ilchester, Md.; St. Alphonsus College, Suffield, Conn., Mount St. Alphonsus Major Seminary, Esopus, N.Y. and Gannon University, Erie. He was employed at the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute for 35 years and he had served as State President of ARC PA (Statewide Disability advocacy Association) from 1995-1997. He was a friend of Bill W. Thomas is survived by his twin brother, Gerald Vincent Ryan of Erie; his sister-in-law, Judy Ryan Leupold; three nephew and nieces: Margaret States and her husband David; Timothy Ryan and his wife Eileen; and Deanna Barickman and her husband Steven. Also survived by five grandnephews. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph/ Bread of Life Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Flowers are graciously declined, Thomas would prefer that Masses be given in his memory.
