William "Bill" Wellington Steadman, born on February 25, 1927 passed on Monday, October 29, 2012. Born and raised in Erie, Pa., Bill married on August 14, 1953 and leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Joyce Kathryn Steadman; children, Guy, Gail, Gary, Greg; and six grandchildren. Bill spent most of his lifetime in Erie, Pa. and retired in later years to Lakeland, Fla. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army
serving stateside during the end of WWII
and gave freely of himself for his family, church, country and community. Bill served the American Baptist Church as a sunday school superintendant and teacher and in many other ways. He spent time with his family sharing the joys of fellowship, camping, golf, photography,music and travel. He took great pleasure and joy from nurturing his family and watching them develop and grow into their own adult lives. Bill loved the outdoors and spent many hours working the land around his home outside Erie, Pa. To share his love of nature and wilderness he would commonly take his family camping or traveling. He loved to golf and shared that passion with his sons and his love of photography stayed with him throughout his entire lifetime and persists in the family he left behind. He shared his love of music through his talent at the piano, often playing in the evenings as the day came to an end. After serving in the military Bill began his career as an apprentice with General Electric Company in Erie, Pa. He advanced with GE and worked as a Draftsman throughout his career of over 42 years service by the time of his retirement. Bill and his wife Joyce then relocated to Lakeland, Fla. where they have been for the most recent 20 plus years and where he continued sharing time and talents with church and community. Together, Bill and Joyce joined the American Baptist Church of Lakeland, Fla. where Bill took great pride and pleasure from organizing the church library. The family asks donations in his memory to be made to the charity of your choosing. A memorial in memory of William Steadman will be held at the American Baptist Church of Lakeland on Sunday November 18, 2012. A graveside memorial will be held during the summer of 2013 in Erie, Pa.
