Mary Lathrop Obituary

Mary Grace Lathrop, 76, formerly of W. Congress St, Corry, Pa., died on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in the Corry Manor. She was born in Erie, Pa on February 20, 1933, a daughter of the late Ralph and Laura Hewitt Fulton. Mrs. Lathrop lived a full life and captured everyone's heart with her genuine smile. She leaves behind many blessed friends and family members who will always recall Mary's helping and generous spirit. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Lathrop Sr of Corry whom she married June 13, 1975 in Corry; mother to Kimberly Burgnon of Oviedo, Fla. and Mark Brutcher of Pittsfield, Pa.; stepmother to Tonja Schrecengost and her husband, Mike, James Lathrop and his wife, Loni and Thomas Lathrop, Jr and his wife, Jennifer all of Corry; her eight grandchildren, Mark Brutcher Jr., Joshua and Jordan Schreckengost, Morgan, Tyler and Olivia Lathrop, Elizabeth, Vivian and Kate Burgnon and great grandson, Tony Brutcher. She is also survived by a brother in law, Donald Brown of Port Charlotte, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. Mary was adored and will be missed by her children, grandchildren and her family and friends. Friends in Corry will remember the years Mary sang soprano in St. Paul's Lutheran Church choir. She continued to sing until age seventy-one. A strong and committed Christian, Mary volunteered her time and treasures to the following community services: Hospice, Meals on Wheels, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women's Group. Several years, Mary spent her summer vacations involved in missionary work on various Indian reservations across the country. At home, she loved to read, bake and care for her plants. Mary was very fond of her annual retreats to Florida, for visits with her daughter, grandchildren and friends from Corry, who had moved south. Before her retirement in 1990, Mary was employed as a service representative for General Telephone Company for over twenty-five years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Carolyn Cage in 1963, JoAnn Gerferz and Nancy Brown both in 2008. Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center Street, Corry, on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and may attend a funeral service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Sunday at 3 p.m. Rev. Brian Eiss, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Lutheran Section of Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, PA. I was so sorry to read of Mary's passing. Mary & I were friends way back in the 1940's when we both lived on W. 29th street. Back then when we wanted a friend to come out and play we would stand at their door and call them by name. We never knocked or rang a doorbell! I can still hear Mary when she came to our house as she called my sister and I to come out. We shared alot of sled riding days on Raspberry Hill and fun at the Perry School playground. There are so many memories of our early teens.
I still have the Christmas picture Mary sent of Kim and Mark when they were very young children, and I will always remember Mary's smile and that beautiful head of curly hair.
My sincere sympathy to her whole family. It was a wonderful tribute to her in the paper.
Sincerely,
Lois (Vogt) Askounes
