Happy Birthday

March 25, 2014

I was blessed to meet some of Alyssa's friends at the National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington DC on March 22, 2014. My son, who also has epilepsy, was familiar with her story from the internet and recognized the "Forever in Our Hearts" and #ajo on the t-shirts. Thanks for inspiring others to support epilepsy research, and also to inspire others to pay it forward.

The rain coming down gently as I'm having my morning coffee. How appropriate is the rain this morning, like tears from heaven as I read the story of Alyssa.
I have lived my life with a pay it forward philosphy. Today I will dedicate my day in the honor of your daughter.
May you have comfort knowing that your daughter is touching lives all over the world. May the random acts of kindness continue. #AJO

"Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy"
Jason & Sarah- I saw this article on Yahoo and it immediately struck a cord with me... my younger brother age 22 had passed away in his sleep on the same day as your daughter did from a seizure as well. My heart breaks for you and your family. Please know that your message is being heard around the country as we speak and it is a beautiful message, as beautiful as your daughter was.
I will pray for your family in this difficult time.

Sarah and Jason, My heartfelt deepest sympathy goes out to you. I am so sorry and will keep Alyssa in my prayers. I only had a couple of occasions to be around her but she appeared to be a very special out-going young lady and from the video and tributes I can see that she was indeed.

You have my deepest sympathies. I know exactly what you are going through. Its like your heart has been ripped out of you. I lost my only son 2 years ago on the 4th of July. I found him in our 4 foot deep swimming pool. He also had epilepsy and apparently had a seizure. I tried to revive him doing CPR but he was already gone. He lived at home with me and was with me every day of his life. He was my life and I didn't want to go on without him in it, but you find the strenght to go on. The only comfort you get is you know they didn't suffer. God will be with you in these terrible times and will get you through this. We will see our children again. My heart goes out to you, from one grieving mom to another. You are in my prayers.

I didn't know Alyssa but just watched some of the video that was shared on Facebook. I made it through about 3 minutes. As a mother, I can only imagine the pain all of you are experiencing right now. There are no words I have to offer that would begin to heal the enormously deep wounds you have been left with. I can say with certainty that God is with you, He loves you, and He will make a way for you to get through this. I will finish watching the beautiful video tribute to Alyssa and will pray for all of you.

As a mother, I can only imagine the pain you are experiencing right now. There are no words I have to offer that would begin to heal the enormously deep wound that you are left with. I can only say that God is with you, He loves you and somehow He will make a way for you to get through this. I will watch the rest of this beautiful video tribute to Alyssa and will be praying for you all.

Today a terrible loss has affected the McDowell class of '13 and many others within our community and families. For those who don't know, our friend Alyssa was a very good person, better than all the top dogs of the more popular kids. Very smart, funny, beautiful, and talented. Most of all, her morals and attitudes outweigh all us friends combined. I knew for all 4 years of high school and I'm proud of it. She'd come to my bonfires when I had them, and looking back, I wish I had more this year. We had classes together, lunches together, and the first couple of years, we rode the bus home together. In Psych, I'd pick on her for having the same passion fruit tea every day and in return, I'd eat most of her leftover food she'd bring to class as a favor for her, which she is a very good baker. I'm very sorry for her family and her boyfriend, one of my best friends, and I will do anything for them due to this terrible situation. RIP Alyssa O'Neil=we all love you no matter what.

Dearest Sarah and Jason,

This helped me deal with my loss, each day is a blessing

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

T Johnson

September 5, 2013

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink form the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.

I never knew Alyssa that well. We had some classes together throughout high school but we were just friendly acquaintances. She was always laughing and making jokes. She had a bunch of friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. Even the people like myself who didn't know her that well, will miss her. I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish her family all the best in this tough time in their lives.

Alyssa was my next door neighbor, and we were friends but I wasn't as lucky to be as close as some of you were. One thing I do know more than some others though, is that she was the most amazing sister. She and her siblings would come over all the time to play basketball, and over the sumer she spent a lot of time outside with them. She was naturally kind to everyone else too. On prom night, we were both standing in our driveways getting pictures taken and she complimented me from across the yard. Every time she caught me singing, she complimented me, and when her brother and sisters would eat popsicles with us she would always take the nasty grape one, because no one else wanted it and she wanted the kids to be happy. Just the other day we were talking about missing our deceased mutual friend kara pollard. this is so unreal alyssa. i still feel like i will see you when i pull in the driveway, and you'll laugh at my parking job. You were so beautiful on prom night and always, even when you were just outside in your pajamas i couldnt help but admire you. I can't even express how terribly I feel for your siblings and parents. You are SO loved Alyssa and I miss you already. All of Mcdowell misses you dearly<3

Alyssa was a strong powerful soul, her kindness, and determination lead her to be a wonderful, intelligent driven young lady. I am thirteen years old and am at the Millcreek Middle Schools. I would just like to say that her story is heartbreaking, and I cannot find any words to describe my bewail. She was a blessing and a role-model to us younger cheerleaders. We looked up to her. She won't only be remembered for her great duties as a cheer captain, but as a diligent; positive person to be around. I cry; and my heartbreaks for the O'Neils in this time and matter of sorrow. I am a cheerleader; and frankly have had some seizures myself. In honor of Alyssa I have my whole middle School wearing purple, and I'd like to help support An Epilepsies Foundation. I cannot begin to feel or imagine how your dear family is feeling right now. My prayers go out to you and friends. We as thirteen year olds, are truly devastated. We lost an angel, but the beautiful angle gained her wings. I love you Alyssa, rest in peace. You may have lived a short time on this earth; but your impact was immense. The good Lord will take care of you and your family, in this time of destitution & dramatic death. So many people love you Alyssa. Good bye my dear role model, you will live in my heart forever. My prayers go out to the O'Neils once again. God bless your hearts. May she live in eternal happiness forever. Wear purple! Show support! And everlasting love! <3

I'm sending my condolences to you today and always. I prayed to her last night, and I will continue to keep her, and you all, in my prayers. She is now a beautiful angel in Heaven. Her soul on Earth was so strong, so I know for a fact that her soul will strongly shine through from Heaven.
