I owe a lot to Ada Lawrence. As a newcomer to Erie, her collection of historical material introduced me to the city, the stories of the African American experience in Erie, and some wonderful people, including the wonderful Johnny Johnson, keeper (and spreader) of the flame. Ada's own life has so much to teach us about life in general and certain aspects of African American history in particular, illustrating the many changes over the twentieth century. The dedication to community and education that she sowed allows those who are open to listen and learn to reap the benefits. I thank you Ada, and may you rest in peace while your memory lingers on.

We rejoice in the life of Ada Louise Lawrence as a founding member of Bayfront NATO Inc. aka Martin Luther King Center. Ada was a dedicated individual, scholastically dedicated to those she taught and/or mentored and an inspiration to all who met her.
