Dolores Ann Dee Cunningham Hoke Obituary

Dolores Ann "Dee" Cunningham Hoke, 82, of Lawrence Park, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, following an extended illness. She was born in Erie on December 20,1930, daughter of the late John Patrick and Blanche Archer Cunningham.

Dee was a graduate of Lawrence Park High School, Class of 1948 and Allegheny College, with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education in 1952. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and served as president. In 1978, Dee received an M.S.W. degree from the College of Social Work at Ohio State University. She was a first-grade teacher at Lawrence Park Primary School for two years prior to her first marriage.

While living in Worthington, Ohio, Dee served as a volunteer at Harding Hospital, the Open Shelter, the Homeless Families Foundation, and Worthington Community Counseling Center. Dee was a former member of Friends of the Erie Philharmonic, and was a core member DCUN of KEEP (Keep Erie's Environment Protected), She also volunteered for the St. Mary's Episcopal Church community meals, and was a long-time caregiver to her mother. Dee enjoyed music, gardening, travel, reading, and most of all, being with family and friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Regional Home Health and Hospice for all their support.

Besides her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her first husband, William G. Hoke and her brother John E. Cunningham. Dee is survived by her husband, Fred E. Taylor; her son, William D. Hoke (Priscilla Horner), of Albany, Calif.; her daughter, Lizbeth A. Hoke, PhD. (D. Blair Weidig) of Sharon, Mass.; her grandchildren, Sarah Jia MiaoHoke and Grace Li Pin Hoke, both of Albany Calif., and W. Benjamin Weidig, Emma E. Weidig and Samuel D. Weidig, all of Sharon, Mass. Also surviving are her step-daughters, Susanne Taylor, of Harborcreek, and Cynthia T. De Muth, M.D. (William W. De Muth, M.D.) of Hummelstown, Pa.; step-grandchildren, Allison Lancas (Eugene), Emily Flak, Annie Hirsch (Shawn), William De Muth, Jr., and Peter De Muth; a niece, Peggy Jean Mann, and a nephew, J. Patrick Cunningham both of Orlando, Fla.; and several cousins.

Services will be private in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of flowers, Dee asked that donations be made to the Regional Home Health and Hospice, 3526 Peach St., Erie, PA 16508 or to a .
