Donald P. Langer Sr. Obituary

Donald P. Langer, Sr., age 76, of Erie, died Sunday, January 26th, 2014, at Summit Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn., surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Erie, April 20th, 1937, a son of the late Frederick and Gertrude Thomas Langer.

Prior to his retirement, Don was employed as a mill supervisor at Hammermill Paper Co. Don was a longstanding member of Mount Calvary Church, where he was an usher and served on pastoral council. He made Cursillo #93. He was an avid sports fan and athlete. His achievements include winning the 1966 city horseshoe championship, and the Brothers' Bowling League Championship. He played many years in the Erie Industrial Softball League. He pitched for the Erie Codgers, winning back-to-back championships. He was a New York Yankees and Cleveland Browns fan. Don enjoyed traveling with his wife to Nashville. For many years, he was a member of the Erie Codgers, Erie Elks Lodge #67 and the Slovak National Club. Most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister Beverly Ananea, and brothers, Fred, Chuck, Gerald and Raymond Langer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 yrs, Lena T. Carullo Langer of Erie; one son, Donald (Elaine) Langer; four daughters, Lisa (Tim) NeCastro; Darlene Wilhelm, Kimberly (Frank) Huff, all of Erie and Kelly (Don) Wise of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tony, Michael (Christine), Amy, Richie, Michaela, Erika, Zachary, Shannon and Sofia, step-grandchildren, Anthony, Peter, Mary, Logan, and Lindsey, great-grandchildren, Kaidyn, Aubree and Cali. He is also survived by brothers, Bob, Len, Rich and Hank; sisters, Jane, Geraldine, Gert and Dorothy, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St., Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and may attend services there on Saturday at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Mount Calvary Church at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 2816 Elmwood Ave., Erie, PA 16508 or the Boys and Girls Club of Erie Inc., 1515 East Lake Rd., Erie, PA 16511.
