"Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister & Friend" Agnes Simon George, age 92, of Erie passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. She was born January 7, 1920 in Vestaburg, Pa. the daughter of the late Wasil and Pauline Lee Simon. Agnes was a kind and compassionate woman and the backbone of her family. She was a valued employee at Sears for 30 years before her retirement in 1997. She was a devoted member of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity and participated in many of the church's activities and services. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan George, Gannon University coach and her son, Mina George, Girard High School teacher and coach. She was also preceded by her four sisters, Katherine Samueloff, Marva Legenzoff, Thelma Klemushin and Nancy Karuba and her four brothers, Fred, John, Steve, and George Simon. Agnes is survived by her children, Yvonne Jean Ditrich of Erie, Jackie George of Los Angeles, Calif.; Gary George of Greenville, S.C. and Gene George of West Palm Beach, Fla. Also surviving is a sister, Colleen Marks of Erie along with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to call at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity, 251 East Front St. Thursday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and are invited to attend Funeral Services there Friday at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. John the Divine Cemetery.
