Alberta Peterson Davis, 94, died at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 in Friendship Ridge, Beaver County, Pa. She was born on Feb. 16, 1918 in Cornell, Wisconsin and was the daughter of the late Gustov and Marie Olson Peterson. She married Charles David Davis on July 15, 1955. Alberta began her long teaching career at the age of 18 in a one room schoolhouse in rural Chautauqua County, N.Y. She was a graduate of Fredonia Teachers College and received degrees from St. Lawrence University, the State University of New York, and the University of Minnesota. During her career in Jamestown, she was a history teacher at Lincoln Junior High School, and an English teacher at the senior high school. In the classroom, she was known for her love of teaching and her great enthusiasm for her job. She was strict but fair, kind, and was never boring. She was especially fond of teaching Creative Writing as well as the plays and poetry of Shakespeare. Her passion for teaching continued well beyond her retirement when she became a private instructor. She has donated her body to medical research. At one time she was the Creative Director for the National Office of the Lutheran Church, Augusta Synod in Minneapolis. She taught Sunday school for most of her life. During the time that she was raising her family, she was a stay at home mom who took great delight in her children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Davis on Jan. 2, 2005, a daughter-in-law, Karen Davis, and two sisters, Florence Kofod and Violet Peterson. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Todd and Emily Davis, Beaver Falls, Pa., Tim Davis, Darlington, Pa., her five grandchildren, Lyda Latagliata and her husband Anthony, Andrew Davis, Carolyn Davis, Matthew Davis, and Heidi Davis, and two brothers, Emel Peterson, age 101, and Paul Peterson, age 104, both of Jamestown, N.Y. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, 715 Falconer Street, Jamestown, N.Y.
