Ann V. (Brody) Berndt, age 91, of Erie, died at home Monday, December 24, 2012 surrounded by her family. Born November 16, 1921, in North Tonawanda, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Katherine (Hubert) Brody. Ann was a member of St. George Catholic Church. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed knitting. She made blankets for the Empty Arms program at St. Vincent Hospital. She was known as grandma by all the children at the Glenwood YMCA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Berndt, who died in 1962, a son, Robert Paul Berndt and six brothers and sisters. She is survived by four children, Elizabeth Nicotra, husband John and Paula Lewis, both of Erie, Gayle Battersby, husband Pete, of Roswell, Ga. and Thomas Berndt, wife Elaine, of Erie; two brothers, Frank Brody and John Brody, both of North Tonawanda, N.Y.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St., at Greengarden Blvd. and may attend prayers there Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Glenwood YMCA, 3727 Cherry St., Erie, PA 16508, to be used for programs for children there.
