Annette Bonner Thompson

1945 - 2018 Obituary Condolences Gallery
Annette Bonner Thompson, 73, of 4118 Garden Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday September 5, 2018 surrounded by her family at Saint Vincent Hospital.

Annette was an extraordinary woman, she had two dates of birth. Her physical date to Eddie and Ethel Bonner April 8, 1945 and her spiritual birth, where she was one of the first in Erie, Pa. to be a recipient of a full heart transplant March 28, 1985. Making her "73 in the physical and 33 in the spiritual" she would always say.

She was born in Aliceville, Alabama and raised in Erie, Pa. She attended Longfellow Elementary School and graduated from Strong Vincent High School where she participated in spelling bee contests. Shortly after, she met and married her former husband Zebedee Thompson of 15 years.

Annette worked as a receptionist at Motown Records in Detroit Michigan hoping to see Smokey Robinson. She also worked as a Case Worker at the Erie County Assistance Office of Erie, Pa., for 13 years, where she retired.

At age 40, Annette was told by doctors she didn't have long to live from a failing heart. On her death bed she asked the Lord 'if it be Your will that I live to see my children's children grow up, I will forever worship Your name." For the next 33 years she did just that; she was a servant of the Lord and shared the goodness of the Lord's word wherever she went. She stood firm and steadfast, even when it wasn't popular and never wavered.

Annette will meet up in paradise with her loved ones, her father Eddie B. Bonner, her mother Ethel B. Summerville Bonner, a sister Eddie Kay Bonner Easter, a brother George L. Bonner and a niece Tracey Easter.

She leaves to cherish her memory her oldest daughter Zabrina Dee Thompson and her baby girl Lynnette Thompson; grandsons Marcus D. Thompson, Brent D. Thompson, Da'Joun L. Heidelberg and her only granddaughter Brittany Renee Thompson; her sister Janie M. Mathis; also raised as sisters Gloria (Cliff) Summerville Lyles, Carol Summerville and raised as brothers Terry Summerville, and Robert Summerville; a special cousin Danny Summerville; ten great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Friends may call at Shiloh Baptist Church, 901 East 5th Street, on Friday, September 14, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., where a home going service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Anthony G. Harris eulogizing. Interment will be at Erie Cemetery. Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home, 2926 Pine Avenue, Erie, PA 16504.
