Brian P. Sweeney Obituary

Brian P. Sweeney, age 50, of Erie, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Erie Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Erie, June 9, 1963 a son of Daniel Sweeney of Erie and Jeanne Wurst Sweeney Kidder of Erie.

Brian served honorably during Operation Desert Storm as a Corporal with the United States Marine Corps. Brian had been employed with the Erie City Public Works for 24 years, as a parks department mechanic, compost operator and stationary engineer. He was a member of the VFW Post 470, American Legion Post 571, and the Sheffield Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Brian was preceded in death by his brother, David Sweeney, his maternal grandparents, Jerome and Madeline Eisert Wurst, and his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Elizabeth Coake Sweeney.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Debra Yerkey Sweeney; two sons, Christopher Daub and Kevin Daub; one daughter, Allison Sweeney; and one granddaughter, Makayla Henry all of Erie; one brother, Timothy Sweeney, and his wife Michelle, of Erie; three sisters, Michele Sweeney, of New Port Ritchey, Fla., Patricia Sweeney of Pittsburgh and Betsy Murray of Erie; a stepmother, Karen Sweeney of Erie and stepfather, Phil Kidder of North East; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends are invited to call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pine Ave. Branch, 845 East 38th Street on Tuesday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Gerald Ritchey, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 837 Bartlett Rd., Harborcreek.
