Charles F. Shauberger, 91, of Girard, died Friday, January 25, 2013 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, in Conneautville. He was born August 11, 1921 in Erie County, a son of the late Lloyd and Elizabeth Sumner Shauberger. Charles was raised and educated in the Girard area. As America was at war, he was inducted into the US Army, during WWII. He was deployed to the European Theater of Operations in August of 1944, where he served with the 15th Armored Infantry Battalion, 5th Armored Division. He participated in Operation Market Garden, where he was wounded in action, receiving the Purple Heart Medal on September 19, 1944. His further decorations and citations include the Good Conduct medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Medal and was authorized to wear the Combat Infantry Badge. Following his discharge from the military, he returned home and worked for Roger's Brothers, in Albion, and Tru Temper, in Lake City. He later became self employed, repairing farm machinery, until his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Linnie Stearns Shauberger, in 1976, also two daughters Charlotte Shauberger in infancy, Sally Pellow and a stepdaughter Nola Cline; two sisters, Ida Belle Mosier and Olive Beam and one brother, William Shauberger. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Thomas Shauberger, two daughters, Barbara Stemple and her husband Roger of Cranesville, Peggy Shauberger of Albion; a son John Shauberger and his wife Kathy of Lake City; a stepdaughter, Donna Kaufman and her husband John of Edinboro; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Funeral services will be held privately by the family.
