Charles George McCarthy, age 84, of Erie, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge. He was born in Erie on February 1, 1930, son of the late Stephen and Martha Barnes.

Charlie was affectionately known as "Unk" to many people. He was employed at GTE, as a technician, and retired after 39 years of service. Charlie enjoyed traveling and was an all-around "Mr. Fix-It," helping friends and neighbors whenever needed. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving in the Korean Conflict.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Betty Lloyd; several nieces and nephews; dear friends, David Raydo and Anni Seaberg.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc. East, 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, 901 West 28th Street, conducted by Rev. Don Hess. Private interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Erie Homes for Children and Adults, 226 East 27th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
