David M. Maggio, 69, died on Friday, January 4, 2013 at UPMC Hamot after an extended illness. David was born on April 4, 1943 in Erie, Pa., and was the son of the late Domenick and Rose Maggio. He was preceded in death by younger brothers Ronald L. Maggio and Dominic Maggio Jr. As a life-long resident of Erie. David attended the former Columbus Grade School, Roosevelt Middle School and graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1961. David was employed with Penelec from the mid 1960's through mid 1970's. Where he started at the Front Street Power Plant and later worked in the Line Department as a Lineman/truck driver. He was always intrigued with electricity and his love for it prompted him to become a self-employed electrician. On August 5, 1976 he obtained his Master Electrical Contractor's License (#179) from the City of Erie. He went on to start his own business, Maggio Electric and Insulation Services, where he served the Erie area for 36 years. He was known by many customers and fellow tradesmen for his problem solving skills, attention to detail, willingness to help and knowledge of the field. David enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, going to Sea Wolves baseball games and high school football games, going to various festivals especially the St. Paul's Italian festival and his passion for his job. He also supported local sports as a business sponsor for groups such as: Boys Baseball of Erie and Cathedral Prep. David is survived by family: Sons: Anthony D. Maggio (Erie, Pa.), Daniel Maggio (Royal Oak, Mich.) and CW3 Michael J. Maggio wife Jill (Honolulu, Hawaii), Ronald Maggio wife Julie (Erie, Pa.) and Thomas Maggio wife Lory Varo (Erie, Pa.). A daughter Laura Oliver husband Maj. Paul (Spring Lake, N.C). Grandchildren: Vincent Maggio, Patricia and Anthony Oliver. Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Tuesday from 2-6 and 7- 8:45 p.m. at which time a Funeral Service will be held. The location and date for a Mass of Christian Burial followed by inurnment in Trinity Cemetery will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Maggio Family.
