Donald G. Gurnett, age 84, of Erie, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Erie Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on June 11, 1928, son of the late George and Helen Hobbs Gurnett. He attended school in Gasport, N.Y. and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He then came to the Erie area in 1963. Don worked as a press operator for Haysite for 27 years prior to retiring. He was preceded in death by two cousins, Marion Scheloske and Robert Pearson; two good friends, Eleanor Long and Sherman Nearhoff. Donald leaves his nearest and dearest friend Marthenia Stallsmith, who will miss him greatly. Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16502 on Saturday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Private burial will be in Erie Cemetery.
