Donald Kenneth Helmbreck, 73, of Edinboro died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his home. He was born in Pittsburgh on April 4, 1939, the son of the late Charles K. and Susan (Shean) Helmbreck. Don was a man full of life, he was an avid outdoorsman, loved nothing better than sitting in a tree stand in the dim light of early morning waiting for some "corned venison or jerky" to step into the clearing, or huddled around some "ice holes" waiting for future "crabby patties". He spent countless hours with his metal detector, searching out bits of history hidden beneath the soil or walking miles upon miles through recently tilled fields, his trained eyes ever watchful for that perfectly preserved arrowhead. Don was an original "American Picker" and spent many years crawling through attics & basements & barns looking for lost treasure and forgotten history. His life was filled with fond memories of friendships cemented over a lifetime, some began in a dumpster or over a cold beer, maybe several, at the shoe, or a hot cup of coffee every morning at the "office" (Perkins!). He will be missed by most people that knew him. He was an active member of the A.H. Club of Edinboro. Don worked as a contractor, specializing in ceiling tile installation. He was a skilled carpenter, which can be clearly seen in and around Edinboro, in the houses and other projects built by his hands, a few tools, and some lumber. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marie (Campbell) Helmbreck; his son, Wayne Helmbreck of Edinboro; three brothers, Gary, Andy and Ray Helmbreck; and a grandson, Wyatt Helmbreck of Edinboro, also, many nieces and nephews. No calling hours will be observed. The Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie St., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements which will be private for immediate family only. Memorials may be made to the A.H. Club of Edinboro, 212 Ash St, Edinboro, PA 16412. To send condolences, please visit www.gluntfuneralhome.com. A private note to close friends (you know who you are).... RIGHT HERE, HERBIE!!!
