Dorothea (Dorothy) J. Weaver Gorniak, age 80, of North East died Wednesday December 19, 2012 at her residence. She was born on September 11, 1932 in Greenfield, Pa. to the late Laura Jane Speelburg Weaver-Barringer and Fred Pelkie Weaver. Dorothea graduated from North East High School, class of 1950. She was employed at Welch Foods in North East for 22 years, retiring in 1992. Dorothea enjoyed birds, reading, playing cards with Welch retirees, her children and her grandchildren. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Fred Weaver; son-in-laws, Jimmy Smith and Jack Truby; daughter-in-law, Sue Pierce Gorniak; former husband, Michael E. Gorniak. Dorothea is survived by her sons, Dennis L. Gorniak ( Shirley) of Erie, Michael F. Gorniak of North East, Donald E. Gorniak of Erie, Eugene P. Gorniak of Medina, Ohio, Randy E. Gorniak (Jan) of Dublin, Ohio; daughters, Deborah Hubbard (Eugene) of Ripley, Darlene A. Pukylo (Jaime) of North East, Jean Castillo (Tony) of El Paso, Texas, Diane Hummel (Sam) of North East, Betty Truby of North East, Rita Skrowron (Bobby) of Mt. Aries, Md.; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Sunday 2-7 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating Rev. Rick Maas.
