Edward G. "Eddie" Freund, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, January 16, 2013, in the loving arms of his wife, and surrounded by family and close friends. He was born June 4, 1938 in Erie, son of the late Edward and Margaret Freund. Eddie was employed as a welder and fabricator at Erie Press Systems for 38 years until his retirement. He had a passion for cars and building projects; building many street rods, drag cars, and motors for people throughout his career. His fondest memories were of the neighborhood kids with their dirt bikes and go-carts, which he always loved to fix for them. Eddie loved animals and children, and will be greatly missed by his constant company, his little dog, Sidney Sue. Eddie was a wonderful man, husband, father, uncle, and friend, and will be forever in their hearts. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Carole Durant Freund, whom he married on November 30, 1957; a daughter, Pamela Freund Pape; son-in-law, John R. Pape; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Brenda Durant and their children, Lauren and Morgan Durant of Erie; special nieces, Robin Burick and her two sons, Michael and Casey Burick of Erie, Tina Richardi and daughter Amber Earthman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bambi Neal and daughters, Molly Neal, Jenifer Clement; and granddaughter, Abby-Lynne of Fla. The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to Eddie's personal caregiver, Ceora Green, for her devotion and loving support. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road. A private funeral service will be held for family members only. Memorial contributions may be made in Edward's name to the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th St., Erie, PA 16511. To send condolences, visit www.dusckasfuneralhome.com.
